Not all home insurance policies will cover items in sheds, garages etc. It depends entirely on the type of policy that your parents have.
If your parents claim, they will have a policy excess to pay - that could be hundreds of pounds. If their policy earns a no claims bonus, as many home insurance policies now do, then they will lose their bonus and it will cost them a lot more at renewal.
Also, in order to claim for stolen property you will have to have a crime reference number - you get this from the police when you report the items stolen.
You really need to speak to your parents about this. You can't do anything, only they can claim.
