Going to buy a car, Do i need insuance?

So this weekend I'm planning on buying my first car, but I don't have auto insurance. I would assume that I need it to be able to drive the car back home, but how do I get it without knowing what kind of car I'll be buying? So basically, am I required by law to have insurance as soon as I buy my car, and how do I get it without knowing what kind of car it is?

If you are financing the car you are required to carry full coverage insurance for the duration of the repayment schedule. Contact a local insurance agent. You can get some recommendations from your friends that drive. Once you decide on a company/agent you can call them and tell them your intentions. They will be able to get a folder set up so when you do pick a vehicle, all you will need to do is call with the specifics and you will be "good to go".

I doubt that the car dealer will ask for insurance before you drive it off the lot. Insurance is probably required to drive the public roads (not in Wisconsin or New Haqmpshire).

Yes! Its illegal to drive without it. You will get a ticket if you're pulled over.
If you own a car(not financed) insurance is relatively inexpensive because you only need PIP. If you do finance, it is pricey because you need full coverage.
You can get better prices by paying the insurance in sixth month increments, as oppose to paying it monthly. The insurance companies always give a better price when you pay it in full.

You could always get a day by day coverage until you decide what you want.... I would think they have insurance booths in the sales floor...
